How I do it (VI): The detective phase
Once I have the first draft ready, that good feeling doesn't last long. Only until I remember that now it's time to review the whole text. Several times, probably.
Apart from all the tools you use, such as spell checkers, grammar checkers, etc. it's necessary at least a manual review of the entire text. And that means time.
In my experience, at least once you should sit down and read your book the same way your readers will do. My advice is to do it without rush, without pressure, think that with every correction you make, you are molding to your liking the experience of the reader with your novel.
One last piece of advice regarding this phase. All the work you during the writing phase regarding accents, faults, etc. will be appreciated here. My intention from now on is, not only to write 2000 words a day but also to make 2000 words "easy" to review and correct.
That means, without spelling mistakes, with an acceptable grammar, etc. I know that at the moment that I'm writing, it won't cost me much more to correct the most serious mistakes. And if I leave it for the future, I'm sure I'll regret it.
